TrilioVault for OpenStack

Total cloud workload protection

Backup to the Future

TrilioVault is the only backup and recovery solution that natively integrates with OpenStack clouds.TrilioVault’s cloud-native design can dramatically reduce the amount of time your entire team spends on restoration activities. It has built-in tenant-level control, utilizing existing identity management tools and OpenStack APIs to distribute management capabilities to all provisioned users of your cloud. TrilioVault integrates with Horizon out-of-the-box to provide cloud and backup administrators with complete visibility into their OpenStack operations in a single view.

By building on the core characteristics of OpenStack cloud environments (scalability, multi-tenancy, self-service, and more), TrilioVault is able to deliver a modern data protection experience that gives customers more power and control over their cloud environments. Now OpenStack users can efficiently create, store, and manage point-in-time backups while providing for speedy workload recovery when and as required — a crucial element of data protection.

Disaster Recovery

With increasingly complex and critical OpenStack environments, companies and service providers need to look for the best ways to fully protect their business, while at the same time providing easier, faster and more reliable recovery. While nothing is fail-proof, an ideal recovery solution will get your business up and running as quickly as possible, with minimal negative impact.

Should disaster strike, TrilioVault makes it easy to restore workloads that reflect your cloud’s last-best-known-state.

With TrilioVault, admins can:

— Store point-in-time copies in NFS, object store, or S3 repositories, on- or off-premises
— Spin up applications along with the operating system, network configurations, security groups and policies, metadata and data into a new zone, datacenter, or cloud
— Manage backup and DR policies
— Manage policies for one or several OpenStack clouds
— Migrate point-in-time workloads from one OpenStack cloud to the next with ease

Test/Dev Environments

More and more organizations expect shorter Recovery Time Objectives (RTO). Cloud workloads can be large and complex and the recovery of a workload from a backup must be executed with 100% accuracy in a rapid manner. That is why it is also recommended that backups be tested regularly to ensure successful recovery when required.

With Trilio, you can easily move full moments in time or backups onto other parts of your network to test against.

Use TrilioVault To:

— Replicate environments in new geolocations or new clouds
— Manage a weekly copy from Dev to QA
— Duplicate production to a new environment for upgrades and testing

The need to migrate OpenStack clouds can be driven by economics, security, test & dev or just resource management. In the event of cloud upgrade cycles or the need to relieve overtaxed availability zones and clouds, you’ll want an easy way to migrate multi-VM application workloads with ease, providing little-to-no disruption to your tenants.

Through TrilioVault, a tenant or administrator can capture an application and its data and migrate that exact moment in time to another OpenStack cloud.

TrilioVault makes it easy to move your cloud:

— Upgrade to a newer version of OpenStack
— Move to a new OpenStack distribution or managed offering
— Shift backups to another private or public OpenStack cloud

Network Functions Virtualization

Disaster can strike in many forms. Sometimes it may be a loss of a single compute node, availability zone, or an entire datacenter.

Luckily, TrilioVault’s application-aware snaps capture entire workloads including the VMs, flavors of the VMs, network settings, and all the volumes attached to those VMs. With DevOps tools plus historical fixes, patches, and tweaks per machine, you can  can bring your environment back to present day quickly and efficiently without the need for low-level scripting.

Now business critical services like NFV can be quickly configured to any state, assuring optimal quality of service.

More About NFV Data Protection

Recover From Data Damage

— Recover from data damage & restore entire VNFs, selected VNFCs, or individual data items using a point-in-time working copy
— Recover from a disaster by restoring the OpenStack network topology & populating it with a working copy of the entire VNF
— Rollback to a working copy
— Roll forward from staging, including all data and configuration

TrilioVault fully integrates into your existing cloud without the hassle that comes with custom or agent-based solutions. By using REST APIs to invoke native OpenStack APIs and Trilio Data Movers (lightweight Python scripts) on each compute node, TrilioVault is able to move data during backup and restore without disruption. No additional servers, no agent installation, and no need to schedule ‘backup windows.’

TrilioVault is software-only, so you can store your backups to any NFS- or S3-compatible device, including Amazon Web Services and Ceph (without the need for an NFS gateway). You can leverage the replication capabilities of the storage system to provide remote replication for disaster recovery.
