Almost every company has a cloud computing initiative underway — public, private, or a blend of the two — in an effort to reduce IT spending and/or improve business resiliency.
Customers in the midst of these cloud deployments often realize the need for data protection too late, tempting them to fill in the gaps with scripting, legacy data protection tools, and other damaging practices.
But most of the industry-leading data protection tools were developed 15 to 30 years ago, long before cloud computing, and have failed to reimagine data protection for the cloud era.
That’s why TrilioVault prevails as the cloud-native data protection of choice for OpenStack and Red Hat Virtualization. Designed for the cloud paradigm, only TrilioVault can deliver a fully-integrated solution that simplifies management without bogging down your network with heavy, disruptive backups.
Tired of data protection that won’t scale?
See why cloud-native backup beats legacy time and time again
Here are the six distinguishing characteristics of TrilioVault that are unmatched by legacy solutions and manual workarounds alike:
TrilioVault is agentless, as it does not rely on any agent inside the machine. Instead, it uses native APIs and TrilioVault Data Movers, which do not require additional servers or resources. This makes TrilioVault very lightweight and easier to manage than legacy solutions relying on floating IPs and media servers.
TrilioVault builds upon the multi-tenancy of cloud environments. Tenants can take full control of their backup policies, dynamically testing and restoring workload snapshots — completely on their own. We provide this multi-tenancy by connecting data protection activity to a specific tenant, allowing tenants to only see and work with their own data protection activities, without the need of any special installation inside the space itself. This eliminates the issue of which tenant is connected to which backup and who can see each of them. Every tenant has the ability to create, configure, and restore backups of their own workloads without relying on a central IT administrator.
TrilioVault provides all its capabilities in an easy-to-use self-service interface, whether it’s via the Horizon and RHV GUIs, CLI, or OpenStack APIs. The TrilioVault dashboard is a plugin to the user dashboard, so there is no need to provide an additional management GUI. Where applicable, tenants and cloud administrators automatically view different built-in tabs, providing them with full control of the data protection of his or her tenant space, without the need for a backup administrator in the middle. This takes the burden off of the backup administrators, giving them back the time that they can use to further improve the data protection service as a whole.
TrilioVault is infinitely scalable with zero performance degradation. It utilizes scale-out architecture by adding service components that match the growth of the environment that needs to be protected. This allows the environment to grow as needed, without having to consider data protection limits while planning your deployment. It further allows you to add resources as you need them, rather than planning for them upfront.
TrilioVault is non-disruptive by design — both during the initial deployment and ongoing, while snapshots are captured. TrilioVault deployment is performed live with no impact to cloud operations. Tenants are unaware of the process and can start using TrilioVault as soon as it is deployed. There are no manual configuration changes and no restarts at either administrator or tenant level. Similarly, operations are executed outside of tenants’ machines, so copies can be taken at any time with no impact to production. Resource consumption by TrilioVault is easily accommodated through proper sizing as part of normal operations by cloud administrators.
TrilioVault is designed to do everything by API calls and run natively as a service within your cloud or virtualized infrastructure. This design allows unparalleled platform integration, complete workload capture with application-aware metadata, and natural scalability as the environments grow.
TrilioVault was designed as a native cloud service to provide self-service, policy-based cloud data protection. It captures point-in-time application data from block storage, along with complete configuration data. This allows tenants to seamlessly recover, reuse, and relocate entire workloads with just one click. With all the needed information available, TrilioVault is then able to easily restore any backup, again utilizing the public APIs, to natively create the base machine where the volume data will be restored.
